Popular opinion maintains that the world needs a republic, needs a new social order and a new religion — but no one considers that what the world, confused simply by too much knowledge, needs is a Socrates.
~Kierkegaard

It is difficult, perhaps impossible, to gain perspective on our lives alone. Most of us struggle with some form of anxiety or confusion, dilemmas, or a sense of meaninglessness. Sometimes we feel that we’re standing in a fog.

Socratic Counseling is based in dialogue, but Socratic dialogue isn’t simply conversation. It is a way of thinking and exploring together. A Socratic counselor is a mirror for self-inquiry – he asks questions, makes observations, introduces proposals, and holds a client’s presence with attention and compassion. The curiosity of another person is a powerful thing. It can help dislodge us from difficult places and make way for new perspectives.

Socrates famously described himself as a midwife for the soul. The Socratic Counselor is not focused on healing (like the therapist) or career advancement (like the coach). She is guided by understanding, the kind that can lead to meaningful life decisions, or set us on more purposeful paths.

“Socratic Counseling, rooted in philosophy and psychology, has empowered me to engage deeply with my life’s challenges and aspirations. I am more self-aware, more resourced, and I’ve gained clarity and insight that I didn't know were previously possible.” -Client
